This job posting is for a Career Executive Assignment (CEA) examination. The CEA examination uses an alternative examination and selection process for filling specified positions.

This examination requires applicants to submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) which must include responses and specific examples related to the Desirable Qualifications listed. This position may be based anywhere in California with part-time telework available. Moving and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed for this position.  Telework requires California residency . Any resident in California may apply.

Under the direction of the Legal Affairs Division Deputy Director, the Driver Safety Branch Chief serves as a high-level manager responsible for the strategic leadership, direction and oversight of statewide Driver Safety Branch operations. The incumbent exercises comprehensive management authority over both field and headquarters administrative functions to ensure the consistent, equitable and efficient execution of driver safety programs. This role is critical in balancing public safety of California roadways with the protection of due process rights for drivers subject to discretionary administrative and hearing actions.

This position may be subject to allocation approval by the Human Resources Branch and/or Department of Finance approval.

Eligible List Information

The results of this examination will be used only to fill the position of  CEA B, Chief, Driver Safety Branch, Legal Affairs Division  with the Department of Motor Vehicles and may be used to fill subsequent vacancies for this position for a period of up to 12 months. Examination/Employment Applications (STD. 678) and Statement of Qualifications will be retained for 12 months. The Department of Motor Vehicles may elect to consider new applicants in addition to those previously screened.
